Lady Robinson…
There is a beach that runs the length of the Grand Parade, and is the focal point of Brighton-Le-Sands. In honour of the wife of Governor Hercules Robinson, of Hong Kong fame, it was named “Lady Robinson’s Beach”. Now Lady Robinson was summed up as ‘fond of gaiety and society, and … majestic-looking’. She also had a fondness of a certain concoction that used to assist her in her dealings with boring, pompous and self loving vice regal types, you know, those snooty rah rah poo-poo types – Earls, Lords, Royals and Admirals.
She secretly mixed dry gin with orange liqueur, lemon juice and soda, pretending it was lemonade or some other “cordial” drink. Actually her manservant Geeves coined the expression “cordial” (or so they say). So in homage to the legend of the fat alcoholic wife of the 1st Baron Rosmead, her name, Ada Rose D’amour, we have created the “Lady Robinson”.
In true Bar Brighton fashion we have brought the tipple up to speed with the times. We mix Dry gin with Blue Curacao and Peach Schnapps with fresh lemon juice. We charge it long with soda, to bring to you a hint of summer gone, and prescriptive assistance to ease one’s sorrow.
